The last of my Cape Town posts! =( . Could slightly be crying because getting to relive this incredible country is a high for me! You took a glimpse into our first two days in Cape town, now onward to the last two days in Cape Town. We Had a hot date this evening with Fabio + Kristina, which you can see their shoot HERE, so we knew we had to be back in downtown Cape Town by 6:00 that evening. We had no real plans other than to drive the Garden route and make our way to the most southern point of the African continent, Cape Agulhas! Its crazy how quickly the landscapes change here. One second your chilling in a coastal beauty the next your wander through mars and then your in what looks like a barren dessert but in reality its nothing but farms of gold for as far as the eyes can see! We saw some beautiful sites and encountered a little family of baboons (which yes, they roam freely here) and then I creeped on some local kids skate boarding around Bo-Kaap! Besides all of the driving, it was a rather relaxing day!
The water here is such a tease! Beautiful blues and its too cold to enjoy! Plus, like great white sharks and stuff! haha!
The next day I woke a little bitter… only because we were supposed to be cage diving with great white sharks! That day trip ended up being cancelled due to forecasted weather conditions. All negatives aside, it turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day ( i know, bitter ) and Kyle and I had one stunner of an engagement sesh later in the day with Chloe + Rudo and one solid game plan down for the days explorations! We were heading to Babylonstoren! A BEAUTIFUL Cape Dutch farm that dates all the way back to 1692 thats in the heart of wine country South Africa! We were here for their epic views, Cape Dutch architecture and those beautiful gardens! We spent a few hours wandering around the gardens in hunt of those beautiful cacti! Boy the things I would do to be able to shoot here every day! Dream wedding venue too! They have a hotel and two restaurants on site! The charm of this place is unreal and I want to come back solely to stay at least one night here!
After we left the gardens, we planned on having lunch in Franschhoek! I didn’t know much about this town other than it was a town known for its multiple century old vineyards all stocked with beautiful Cape Dutch architecture and if you are here at the right time, the fields and mountain sides are covered in flowers! We missed the flower parade but the views here. I think this is one of the my favorite spots from this day! We drove a really sketchy road up the mountain to get an overlook of the valley and it was stunning! And cold! Very cold and windy up there!
Like true South African nature, just a mere 45 minute drive put us on the coast! When we were on the top of table mountain, we saw this road that looked as if it drove the entire length of the coast. So we gps’d to one spot of the road and drove it back into town for our session that night on Signal hill! We stopped back in Muizenburg because the sun was shining and the colors were far better than the first time we stopped! It was worth it!
Remember that road, yea it was also the smallest, windiest road ever! The views were SPECTACULAR but I’m pretty sure Kyle was freaking out the entire time! haha! The guy has a thing about sketchy roads and cars. Its called Chapmans Peak Drive and if you are in the area, I highly recommend because those coastal views were incredible! it actually reminded me a bit of Maine. That rocky coastline!
We made it to Signal hill about an hour early so we could get a parking spot (parking is VERY limited here) and scout out where we wanted to shoot. The good thing is the view is MIND BLOWING here! Table Mountain and Lions head, and then the ocean and beautiful sweeping views of Cape Town. Its the perfect spot! Only downfall is at sunset every day there are about 4 tour buses that drop people off and others drive here in droves. Get here early! Plus side is none of them really walk the trails so as long as you walk away from the parking lot, youll get some privacy! =D
Our last did in South Africa we spent it in Johannesburg at our airbnb! Kyle snagged a KILLER penthouse apartment overlooking Jozie so we stayed in and got some work done before heading out the CHE Argentine Restaurant for our thanksgiving dinner! The best steak I tell you! We ate there twice it was so good!
