These two! These two are total troopers! Flash back to last year, just mere months after these two had exchanged vows, my good friend Andie and I were coming to Iceland and we had planned to shoot some bride and groom portraits for them as they never had portraits taken on their actual wedding day. Julia had a beautiful, sleek black valentino dress that she paired with a lacy body suit underneath that she was gearing up to step back into. Then I broke my leg and all of our plans were put on the back burner for obvious reasons. I was actually more pissed off about missing my shoots and an upcoming wedding than I was about breaking my leg. I actually think the first thing I did once I fell was take a photo to make sure my camera was ok! haha! Priorities here people. So when I was looking at flights going back to Europe, I was pumped when I saw the cheapest flight was with Icelandair. I knew right then and there that I wanted to reach back out to Julia and Piotr to see if they still wanted to capture some portraits of the two of them while I was in town.
Talk about good timing two because these guys are about to move to Italy to start university! I think it was meant to be, clearly. We had perfect weather too! Not too cold, or windy or raining. Everything you could ask for from the Icelandic weather gods – even though they never gave me those beautiful northern lights. Anyhoo. I was SO anxious for this shoot. We had no real set plan other than to head to a location that was near Reykjavik and Piotr had work that evening. So we made our way to Þingvellir National Park which is only about 40 minutes outside of Reykjavik. It was perfection. We made our way down to Öxarárfoss which is a beautiful waterfall within the park that is surrounded by these awesome volcanic rock formations. The entire park is stunning, as is everything in Iceland. Its funny because I always only shoot close to sunrise or sunset for the best lighting for my couples, but with the way things were with opening times and with Piotr having to be at work by 8pm, we shot these in the middle of the afternoon in the harsh Icelandic sun and I ate it up. Who’s scared of harsh light anyways? I had the best time with these two getting them out of their comfort zones. Afterward, Julia even ventured to the south with me so that I could visit the exact spot where I broke my leg just 8 months ago. Dumb Candace forgot her bathing suit in the car though so I was never able to swim in the hot pool – which I am never visiting again. ha . Julia and I ventured back to the car and sat just outside of one of the prettiest waterfalls in Iceland, Seljalandsfoss, while enjoying a beer or two and chatting about life. Julia is seriously hte sweetest person ever! I am so thankful to have met her. But instead of boring you with more of my ramblings, enjoy the many many favorites I have of these two!
