You thought I was done with sharing all of my favorite images of 2017? Ha! I told you that my favorite of Portraits and Travel of 2017 was coming your way and tonight, I am sharing my favorite travel images of the year! It was a busy travel year for me! I visited 8 states and 11 countries throughout 2017 and it was definitely a year I will never forget! We all know how deep my love for travel goes and I am extra excited for what 2018 already has in store for me but 2017 was a bit shaky in parts.
I kicked the year off with a fun trip our to Vegas with my good friends Andie + Tony of Costola Photography to attend the WPPI Conference. It was an incredible experience but Im not going to lie when I say one of my favorite parts was exploring Zion National Park, Lower Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend! The desert is a happy place! Those desert tones and that desert light gives me all kinds of life you guys! Just a few weeks after our packed Vegas trip, I packed up my bags and trekked out to my favorite place in the world, the PNW, more specifically, Seattle and Leavenworth in Washington, and attended the Cascade Workshop! I had attended a few conferences in the past but never a personal, more intimate setting such as a workshop. I was a bit nervous at first but it was one of my favorite experiences this year! It opened my creativity and I learned SO much from the incredible Benj Haisch! Plus, I finally started to dabble in shooting film! Right after I returned home from out west, it was time to do laundry and repack the bags and head back to Guatemala to not only visit with my family, but to help celebrate the marriage of my cousin Pamela to her now husband, Ivan! It was such a fun trip and we loved partying with the family! Which let me tell you, they know how to party. Im such an old putz and couldn’t hang that long! But I wasn’t hung over the next morning like a few of my cousins were so HA!
I spent a couple of weeks at home before I jumped back on a plane for a fun Solo trip over to Europe! I backpacked to Amsterdam, Prague and London and it was a trip that Ill never forget! Prague is 100 and 10% one of the most beautiful cities I have EVER seen! It has everything I would want in a city, history, color, charm and the prettiest views you’ll ever see! And it was rather clean! WINNING! After my two week stop in Europe, I jumped on a plane and made my way to Antigua + Barbuda to photograph the beautiful elopement of Mike and Brittany! Still so thankful for such an opportunity! I may have flipped my jetski in the middle of the ocean and ended up killing my phone and having a wrinkly passport but it was a serious highlight of the year for me! My first international wedding and with one of the most genuine couples on the planet too! Love you guys <3
Flash forward two and half weeks and it was FINALLY time for what will be the most memorable trip of the entire year! My girl Andie and I had a hot date with my favorite country in the world, ICELAND! This country really is a gem. Land of weather that changes every 2 minutes, ice, fire, geysirs, waterfalls and just…. beauty everywhere you look. We drove around the entire country, camped in the car, experienced that whole 24 hours of daylight life and where I also broke my dang leg in 4 spots from merely walking and slipping on loose gravel. Yep. I can’t make this crap up! This happened 3 days before we were supposed to leave, and the day before we were supposed to start our shoots! Still so bitter about that! It was still one of my favorite trips this year though! My bank account may not have loved that trip, but it was life changing! Literally and Figuratively! Shoot, Ill be back in Iceland in April! That how deep my love for this country is!
After spending about 3.5 months stuck in a bed and rehabbing my leg, I was FINALLY able to get out of the country and take the bestest girl trip with 3 of my favorite people in the world! We had a hot date with Ireland and Germany but what we were mostly excited for… OKTOBERFEST! If you know me, you know I love me some beer and Germany has some yummy beer! Im honestly surprised any of us even remember that day but it was one of the funnest days ever! We drank, we ate, we laughed, we cried… haha thanks Kira and we conquered almost all of the tents! It was a blast! After a few weeks of diving back head first into working while still healing, I was in the middle of the busiest season I have ever had and needed some time away. So I snatched one of my bestest friends up and we drove up to Maine for a quick fall getaway! We stopped in NYC, Newport Rhode Island, Salem Mass, New Haven Conn and a few days throughout Maine! Such a fun trip to spend with Linds, especially considering she grew up in Maine and getting to take her to her fathers home was a surreal moment for me.
I played catch up the following weeks, trying to stay on top of my work load and getting galleries sent out to my clients in a timely manner, it was alas, time to say goodbye to the states again! My friend Kyle and I were off to SOUTH AFRICA! We were so pumped for this trip! Safari, great white sharks (that never happened, still bitter, must go back, whos coming with me?) and some of the most breath taking landscapes I’ve ever seen! I still miss driving around table mountain! Miss you Cape Town! <3 After two incredible weeks in South Africa with a quickie in London, I was home again, shooting weddings and thinking about my last trip of the year, Italy! Italy was a solo trip for myself and I was kind of nervous as right before I left, my foot started hurting pretty badly. Good ole plantar fasciitis was in full effect and there was nothing that I could really do about it but rest. Rest isn’t an option when you are in Italy though. So I tuckered through as much as I could and conquered cities like Lake Como, Venice, Burano, Bologna, Florence, Cinque Terre, Siena, Tuscany, Naples and Rome! It was a jam packed 3 weeks but Im not gonna lie, Italy is not in my top 5 favorite countries. Sorry guys!
Here is a quick list of my favorites from the year
Favorite trip – Iceland
Favorite city – tough one between Cape Town and Prague! Im going to say Prague!
Favorite currency – oh most definitely the South African Rand. The US dollar goes so far there!
Favorite state – Most definitely Maine! Im just so obsessed with the PNW and Maine is as close as we get to that goodness on the east coast. I will say that Arizona is hard number two! <3
Anyhoo, Im sure you are over all the chatter, enjoy my favorite travel images from 2017! Next up, KEY WEST in two weeks!
haha, when I broke my leg and was enjoying a nice cup of hot tea from my friend Lukas who was so kind and stayed with me the entire time!
and a little video recap of course! =D
