Y’all, this was probably one of my favorite trips! A few of my bestest girl friends and I, had been throwing around the idea of heading to Germany for Oktoberfest. Flash forward about 7 months and things were finally starting to come together! We found cheap round trip flights to Dublin and decided we were going to make this trip all about good views and good brews! I mean, Ireland and Germany? Two countries famous for beer!
We only had 7 days to explore as much as we could of both countries so we rented a car and road tripped our way through! First up, Ireland! We wanted to see some of the city and some of the country side, but we only have two days to do it so we hustled. ha! Our flight landed in Dublin around 6 in the morning leaving us with the entire day to explore some of the city. We were all exhausted! We couldn’t check into our airbnb until 2 and everything opened late because it was Sunday.
So we spent a good 1.5 getting stuck in traffic before we were dropped off by our airbnb, which was conveniently located directly next to the Guinness store house. Fortunately, neither myself or my friends were fans of Guinness so we skipped wasting time taking that tour. Instead, we needed to find something that we could do and still have all of our bags with me. Naturally, we headed out on the Hop-on Hop-off bus! haha This was cool because it was warm and took us around the entire city. The downfall was that it was two hours long and we were fighting to stay awake. Needless to say, the moment we checked into our airbnb, we all crashed for about an hour and half or so before heading out to a few local pubs for dinner and beer! We called it a night early… we had an entire day of adventure ahead after all.
The next morning we had a hot date with a rental car. I had been slightly nervous, anxious and excited for this day. I was about to rent a car and drive on the left side of the road for the first time….ever. It was all fine and dandy…. until I turned on a one way straight within the first 7 minutes of driving the dang car! haha. I pulled over and took a deep breath and it was all she wrote after that. It was nearly as difficult as I thought. It definitely take a little bit to get used to though. Kendall even took over after we made our way to the Cliffs of Moher and we all are home safe and sound. Neither of us killed anyone. Speaking of the Cliffs, it was so nice to see those views again! I wish I was able to walk along the trail a bit more but with how unstable my foot was inside of my walking boot, I kept the paved areas instead.
The entire 3 hour drive to the other side of the country, I could not stop singing Ed Sheerans Galway Girl. haha So naturally, we blasted it while driving through Galway looking for parking. ha
When we arrived to the cliffs, I knew I was going to be limited in what I was able to do. The trail only has a wall for the first portion of it before it gets a bit muddy and bumpy. So I sent the girls up the left side of the trail to see the views while I intended on sitting my happy butt down on the steps and taking the view in again. But then I realized that the steps went all the way to the top of the cliffs where O’Briens Tower stands. I happily, yet slowly, took my booty to the top and was able to see the cliffs from a completely different angle and was able to see more of the northern side of the cliffs. It was just a incredible as I remembered. After I did a little wandering, the girls found me at the top and we had a little photo op while we could.
Google is a beautiful thing. I was trying to find interesting places within Ireland to see that weren’t too far out of the way. Im not going to lie, we could have skipped Galway haha, Im still sad that we didn’t have enough time to see the Rock of Cashel but Ill see it next time. Thankfully, Quin Abbey was stunning and we spent a good amount of time wandering around the grounds. Some of the dates on the graves were marked back as far as the early 1800’s! Crazy!
So I was trying to take an awesome shot of these birds flying all around Bunratty castle…and you guessed it. A dang bird crapped right on my HAND! I WAS A MERE FEW INCHES FROM GETTING CRAPPED ON MY HEAD! Thankfully, a lovely Irish couple was walking by and she had wipes in her car. Thank you stranger! You were so appreciated!
Ireland was incredible! We actually had one last day in Dublin that we spent wandering around Temple Bar in celebration of my birthday. But up next… Germany. And its a new favorite country that I cannot wait to see again!
